| Standard: red/white The lines can be supplied in two ways: with alternate red and white floats or according to FINA regulations: the first and last 5 meters of each line are red with single white floats at meter intervals; the rest of the line is white with a single red float indicating halfway point. |
| Wave-breaking characteristics |
| Specially designed longitudinal
vanes completely absorb the wave within the lane line itself so that
the wave does not cross into the next lane. Wave-breaking is required in swimming competitions to prevent turbolence from disturbing swimmers. The wave-breaking effect must be complete and continuous along the length of the line. |

| Safety features |
| The smooth, continuous
outer surface of the lane lines avoids the risk of possible accidents
such as trapped fingers or abrasions. For safety the turnbuckles etc. are all enclosed within the end floats. |
| FINA regulations |
| The number of lane lines must be equal to the number of swimming lanes plus one. This is to prevent swimmers in the outside lanes from swimming into ladders, and to make competitive conditions equal to those in the centre lanes. The distance between the two outside lanes from the pool side must be 50cm. The floating line must have a diameter of between 5 and 10 cm. |
| Buoyancy |
| Buoyancy for Model COMP/S is achieved by
small sealed floats placed inside every other wave-breaking element. Half the line will
show above the water. For COMP/A and COMP/B Models buoyancy is achieved by inserting expanded polystyrene inside wave-breaking float. Half the line will show above the water. |
